One Peace

You ever wonder why TWO fingers = Peace? Weird eh? Where did that come from? Well, as it turns out, it is not really that old. According to history, Winston Church Hill used the “V Sign” with the index finger and middle finger extended, as V for Victory for the Allies during World War Two. In the 1960’s counterculture activists who were against the Vietnam War, used the same symbol not for victory but to represent Peace. In addition, this sign is not universal. Some countries interpret that sign as very offensive.

Wouldn’t that be funny if a Rock was the symbol of Peace?

Perhaps the Dove is the better symbol of Peace…the dove has biblical roots in the story of Noah and the baptism of Jesus and is not a cultural symbol.

Today I am in the book of Isaiah.

Isaiah 26:3 NIV

You will keep in perfect peace
    those whose minds are steadfast,
    because they trust in you.

Peace

Do you have it? Do you Want it? Do you need it? Do you seek it and cannot find it?

Peace

I find it amazing how I am always seeking peace, yet I am the one who destroys it.  Why is that? I give away my power to others by allowing them to take my peace. Wait – they didn’t take it…I gave it to them.

Peace

Do you know how to get it? “All I ask for is for a little peace around here!” Ever hear that one? Ever say that one?

WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO TO GET PEACE?

Peace

When I am upset, there is something wrong with me. That is what I learned a long time ago. This statement tells me, that the only one disturbing my peace is me. It’s not about what happened, it’s what do you do with it. Anger, withdraw, FEAR, stress and even sadness are all emotional disruptions that we can allow to steel our peace. I was taught over 20 years ago that when I rely on Him, that is when I can find true inner peace. I have witnessed this peace in fractional amounts over the years.  This news is not new. Putting it into practice and keeping that peace is not easy.

Several weeks ago, a woman told me a story that prompted me to work towards setting down my anger over the giant screw ups. What has been my solution? Keeping God on the forefront. Prayer has been the key. Redirecting self to God. Imploring self-control (Fruit) and working on re-direction of my anger (insert your fear hear) – this is something that was also taught to me a very long time ago but I have struggled to even get a fraction of success in this area. This re-direction, is my new place of Hope…

As I rely on Him for One Peace.

Isaiah 26:4 NIV

Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.
