The anointing of Kings is the turning point in the Bible where the people traded direct dependence on God for earthly direction rather than direct guidance from God through Judges and Prophets.
1 Samuel 8:5 NIV
They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”

Kings Anointed
The people of Israel demanded a King to lead them. God provided them with their request regardless of the human fallacy they were warned of through His words spoken through Samuel the prophet. Samuel Anointed Saul as King and later David as his successor.
Here is the deeper meaning of Kings Anointed.
Saul and David were chosen by God for leadership that carried promise and tension. These Kings were meant to reflect God’s rule but given human nature, they fell short. Their failures weren’t just morality issues. Their failures represented that no human, even an Anointed King, could fully embody God’s justice, righteousness and faithfulness.
We typically would associate the word anointed with the pouring of oil on someone’s head. This action means to “set apart by God, for a purpose” It is a sign of His Spirit and Authority. The word Anointed means chosen in the Bible. The word Anointed in Hebrew is Mashiach (Messiah), which means anointed one. In Greek, (New Testament language) the word for “the anointed one” or Messiah that carries the same meaning, is Chistos.
In 2 Samuel 7 God makes a covenant with David. God promises an everlasting throne. A Future King that WILL NOT FAIL.
“‘The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you: 12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. 15 But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me[b]; your throne will be established forever.’”
This is a direct foreshadowing of the coming of Jesus! He will often be called the “Son of David.” God himself will enter human history – as Jesus. Jesus will reflect the true nature of God. He leads by sacrifice not by domination. He leads through service not by taking power. He leads by laying down His life for others – US.
Jesus is the TRUE Anointed King.
