444

What does the number 444 mean to you?

Let’s start with just the number 4. 3 + 1 is 4. When I see the number 4, I think of the word work. This is not the most traditional interpretation of the number 4 in the bible. More traditionally, we can associate the number 4 with the 4th day of creation, the day God created the moon, sun and the stars. Time and the 4 seasons are a result of God’s work. More often, the number 4 is viewed as Fullness and completeness.

I choose to view the number 4 as work – work to get to Fullness and completion – God’s work of creation. There are several places I can pull support from the bible for my view.

Exodus 20:11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens (1) and the earth (2) the sea (3) and all that is in them (4) but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Exodus 20:8 (the 4th commandment) Remember the Sabbath Day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work (emphasis mine) but the seventh day is the sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.

Exodus 25:8 Then have them make a sanctuary for me and I will dwell among them. (I view this as work to get to Him) In the details of the descriptions of the materials to create (work) the Tabernacle were 4 components, gold, silver, brass, and wood. In addition, there where 4 types of curtains, white, blue, purple, scarlet. (colors are also significant in the bible, but we can save that for another post.)

So now let’s get back to the number 444. Simply put, the way I interpret this is the number 4 repeated 3 times. Number 3 being the Trinity being repeated 3 times is divine protection and completion. 444 Reminds us of God’s presence, encouraging us on our journey towards a spiritual awakening. It is an indication of God’s protection and guidance. It is God’s assurance and connection to higher self.

I want to share a story. The largest controversy of Jimmy Carter’s presidency was the Iran hostage crisis. Carter, in a very controversial decision, never waged war on the Iranian regime. Most historians believe that along with this decision to not wage war and a failed undercover rescue mission, very well consider these facts as, a large contributor to Carter’s landslide loss to Ronald Reagan. At the end of Carter’s days in his presidency, he spent his last night’s napping in the oval office. What was he doing? He was working around the clock to successfully free the hostages.

The Iranians released all 52 hostages just minutes after Ronald Reagan took the Oath of Office on Jan 20, 1981,

the 444th day of their captivity.
