The Receipt

These days when you are making a purchase at the store, getting your receipt can be an event.

Often the receipt is 3 feet long and you wonder if you just killed a tree.
Often there is a screen that is asking you to answer questions before you can get your receipt.
Often there is someone asking you if you want your receipt emailed or printed.
Often there are two receipts, one that has nothing to do with your purchase.
Often there is an advertisement or coupon on your receipt.
Often there is a survey on your receipt.
Often the receipt does not print, and you use your phone to record it.
Often people don’t even care about receipts anymore.
Often you need to ask for your receipt.

What’s the purpose of the Receipt anyway?

TRACKING FACT

The Receipt of Jesus is given to us regardless if we ask for it or not. We are born with His Receipt. What If you walked out of church this Sunday with His Receipt? What would that look like?

Believe in Jesus

Romans 10:9 NIV

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Accepting Jesus as Lord

Colossians 2:10 NIV

10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.

Baptism and New Life

Romans 6:3-5 NIV

Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.

Eternal Life

John 5:24 NIV

24 “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

Resurrection as a Receipt

Romans 4:25 NIV

25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
