Why do I need to write this?
I can’t believe I actually have to write this!
But this is what happens:
Someone decides that some topic or person is more important than Jesus.
Oh no — they’d never say that out loud! But then they use Scripture to support their thinking…
…and they call that “Jesus.”
BEWARE OF TRICKY TEACHINGS
These teachings sound spiritual, even Biblical. But they’re driven by human concerns, not God’s.
“What’s good for me HAS TO BE GOOD FOR YOU… even if it harms someone.”
Sound familiar?
SCRIPTURE IS BEING TWISTED
Want Scripture? Here’s my response:
- Matthew 16:23 (NIV)
“Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” - 2 Peter 3:16 (NIV)
“His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort… to their own destruction.” - Matthew 21:12–13 (NIV)
“My house will be called a house of prayer… but you are making it a ‘den of robbers.’”
Some will even use the fruit of the Spirit to justify selfishness:
- Galatians 5:22–24 (NIV)
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace… Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
SCRIPTURE ISN’T THE ANSWER… IF JESUS ISN’T AT THE CENTER
Let me remind you:
What’s good for some is NOT good for all.
So, if both the faithful and the selfish use Scripture…
How do we know the truth?
THE LITMUS TEST: WWJD
Remember this?
WWJD — What Would Jesus Do?
Ask: Would YOUR Jesus say that? Would YOUR Jesus do that?
If someone’s argument is rooted only in the human realm, they won’t accept a Jesus-centered argument.
They’ll just throw more Scripture at you.
JESUS IS THE ANSWER
- Scripture is not the end-all — if it’s weaponized.
- Scripture is not the answer — if it’s not rooted in Jesus.
JESUS IS THE REAL ANSWER.
JESUS IS FIRST.
