Bush Lit

Exodus 3:1-15

As Moses is tending to his flock near the Mountain of Horeb, he witnesses a bush that is on fire but is not burning up. When Moses, approaches the bush, God speaks to him through the bush. He instructs Moses, to remove his sandals because he is on holy ground. God then reveals that He has heard the suffering of the Israelites in Egypt and calls Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. When Moses asks God, “who shall I say sent me?” God says to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I am sent me to you.”

God Reveals His Presence – God reveals Himself visibly through the burning bush. Fire in scripture often represents God’s Holy Presence.

Holiness – God instructing Moses to remove his sandals makes ordinary ground Holy.

Divine Calling – The burning bush is the event and moment that God Calls Moses and commissions him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.

God Sees Suffering – God tells Moses He has seen the oppression of His people, showing that God is attentive to injustice and suffering.

God’s Name and Identity – God reveals His mysterious name. “I AM WHO I AM.

The Bush is a picture of the Human Body – The bush is like a human body. It is ordinary. It is earthly, It is fragile, yet capable of carrying divine presence.

Future Salvation – THIS IS A MAJOR POINT OF OBSERVATION WE MUST NOTE: The burning bush represents God’s power. His power is sustained through a miracle that draws attention. However, the bush is never destroyed. This is the story of Jesus.

The burning bush represents God revealing His holy presence, remembering His covenant, and calling Moses to deliver His people while demonstrating divine power that burns with holiness yet preserves rather than destroys.
