The Story
Exodus 7-12
After 10 plagues with the final plague ending with the death of Pharaoh’s son, the Israelites were finally freed.
Exodus 14:5-28
As Moses led the Israelites to freedom, Pharaoh changed his mind and sent out his army to pursue them. The Israelites became trapped. The Red Sea in front of them, Pharaoh’s army behind them. God instructed Moses to stretch out his staff over the sea. God parted the waters. Allowing the Israelites to walk through safely. The Egyptian army followed and the waters returned, destroying the army.
God makes a way when there is none – Limitations don’t apply to God. When life feels impossible, God will provide a path.
Deliverance requires trust and action – The Israelites didn’t just watch. They had to participate. They had to obey. They had to trust. They had to walk through the sea. Faith isn’t passive. Faith often requires us to step forward in UNCOMFORTABLE circumstances and trust God before we feel secure.<– Maybe put the words feel safe here.
Freedom just isn’t leaving, it is crossing over – Leaving Egypt wasn’t enough. God wanted full transformation. The Sea became a point of no return. The Egyptians could not go back. They could never return to who they were.
God fights for His people – Exodus 14:14 “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” God is showing us that there are battles where striving less and trusting more is the real act of obedience.
Judgement & Salvation happen side by side – The same water that saved the Israelites also judged the Egyptians. God’s power REVEALS TRUTH – bringing both rescue and accountability.
Sometimes the body feels trapped before the spirit recognizes freedom.
The Red Sea also reflects the foreshadow of Baptism. The passing through water is a transition of identity – slave to free – old life – new life. The body participates in the crossing before the mind recognizes the freedom.
The splitting of the sea is the moment where fear says “you’re stuck,” but God says “walk forward in freedom.”
