FUN FRIDAYS! – Reflection in Time

What were you doing 7 years ago? What were you doing back then? What about 20 years ago? What were you doing, who were you back then?

20 years ago, I had just closed our business and my world had come crashing down around me. We were in financial disarray after taking a business bankruptcy to save our house and financial situation. I was working at a Science Center part time for $9/hour. The job I held, was a healthy transition point to provide self reflection of who I was professionally with regard to my skill set background and future work desires. I was also making strides towards being sober from sex addiction long term. The bankruptcy broke me. It got my attention. Unfortunately, it was what I needed to recognize the unmanageability in my life. It was a tough time.

There was some time for FUN, even in the tough times. My In-laws had an old car that had gone semi-missing from a repair shop they had it at for quite some time. The mechanic lost his lease and moved all his belongings and several cars that sat in the parking lot to a new location. Know one had set eyes on the car for years. We only quasi knew where it was. After several years and my occasional hard inquires with my In-laws about finding their car, my Mother In law provided me with a Power of Attorney over the car and an address and phone number. I went on a quest to find the car. There is a long story that continues for another 4 years that I will share another day. We finally “freed” the car in 2010. My In-Laws then proceeded towards fully restoring the car that had been in the family since 1959.

The car is a 1958 Chrysler 300D. It is one hard top of 809 total 1958 Chrysler 300 production cars. There were 619 hard tops and 181 convertibles produced. The car was finished being restored in 2014 and has been in a temperature controlled environment since then. In 2010, my In-Laws received the gift of membership to the Chrysler 300 Club International from me and my wife. They have been members since.

Last weekend, the Chrysler 300 Club had one of their 2 Annual Chrysler 300 Meets in Asheville NC, just a few hours away from my house. While my In-laws were not able to attend, my Mother In-law graciously invited me and my wife to attend and learn more about the FUN of owning an old car.

So, I ask you this FRUN FRIDAY! and to consider this weekend – What where you doing 7 years ago? Who were you? What were you doing 20 years ago? Who were you? How have you changed? How have you grown?

Have you been fully restored?
