The Strange Comfort of a Well-Told Story

On Friday I told you that I got my voice back. Well guess what? Now I am going to CALL IT OUT!

What is a Forked-tailed Drongo?

It is an African bird that uses false alarm calls to steal food. This bird mimics alarm calls of meerkats, pied babblers and glassy starlings, DECEIVING them into dropping their prey and fleeing. Then the Forked-tail Drongo swoops in for a free meal. This bird is the

QUEEN OF LIARS

This week we are talking about accountability.

Everyone tells stories.

Stories about what happened.
Stories about why it happened.
Stories about why we were right.

Most of the time we don’t even realize we are shaping the story as we go.
We add a detail here.
Leave one out there.

Until one day the story we tell others…
and the truth we quietly know inside…
no longer match.

Sometimes a lie doesn’t start as a lie.
Sometimes it starts as protection.

Protection from embarrassment.
Protection from consequences.
Protection from being seen in a way we don’t want to be seen.

So a small adjustment to the story is made.
Then another.
And over time, the story becomes the one we live with.

Not because it is true…
but because it feels safer than the truth.

THERE IS ONE THING THAT I AM SICK AND TIRED OF IN OUR SOCIETY:

THE FACT THAT SO MANY PEOPLE LACK ACCOUNTABILITY.

They just want to be comfortable.
They believe discomfort is unsafe.
They will do anything to avoid discomfort.
They lie to be comfortable.

IF THIS IS YOU, THEN I AM CALLING YOU OUT!

You are like the Fork-tailed Drongo.

LIAR!
