Do you now what Dad lore is?

This week my son and I headed over to my friend Wayne’s house. Wayne is the guy we have been praying for here at Give Your Story. We finally got Shirley to tell us what we can do for her. She asked to have her porch power washed. After we were done, we were talking about the neighbor who was on the porch talking when we arrived. She had brought over some mace for Shirley because the neighbor was concerned with Shirley walking by herself to her car at night by herself. So we were talking about the neighbor and the mace and Shirley told us a story about a time when Wayne was talking to Shirley about mace. He told her that if you are going to use it you should know what its like before you use it. With that he popped it off in the house. Well…they had to get out for while….

I chimed in with a story from the early 2000’s. My wife and I got an invisible dog fence. We both decided that if we were going to shock the dog, we should try it out ourselves. Of course the collar was set with the highest resistance. It felt like a 9 volt battery x 3 maybe.

I continued with my stories and started talking about the time I was on my Nokia analog phone back in 2003. I had the efence dog collar in my left hand, while talking on the phone with the right hand. At this point due to our dog escaping a few times, the collar was on a lower resistance setting so the shock would be more intense than when we had tried it. As I was talking, I went to switch the phone and the collar between hands and the phone and collar touched. BOOM!!! It went off! The shock went through my hand and up my arm and into my ear and up and down the side of my face. I dropped the phone and the collar and the phone shut off. Man was that a shock! ( Both items survived just fine )

After I was done telling the story and my son and I were walking out to the truck, my son said to me:

“Well Dad, thanks for giving me some more Dad lore to tell my friends!”
