Do you remember? Do you remember when we met? Do you remember our first adventure together? Do you remember how long it took me to call you back? Do you remember our first date? Do you remember how close we were-like, ALL the time? Like totally up each the other’s butts! Do you remember how we found out we both grew up in a Lutheran Church? Do you remember when we figured out that we both had family in Kansas? Do you remember when we found out your Mom had the same cookware as my Mom? Do you remember when we almost had the same glasses?
Do you remember the things we used to do together? Do you remember the Ski trips? Do you remember the motorcycle rides? Do you remember ALL the planning we did for our future? Do you remember that awesome trip to Ocean City MD with our friends? Do you remember just weeks later our first big trip together to Kansas to visit family? Do you remember when Jeff left the airport and the gate closed between the RV and the Boat and the gate broke off and went flying and Jeff never stopped, and we laughed so hard for miles and miles? Do you remember getting back from our trip to find out we lost our friend Mark to a car accident and how I banged on his casket out of anger at the cemetery.
Do you remember living in South Carolina? – the arm pit of the South? Do you remember how spring was less than 3 weeks, before the heat wave pushed us inside to the air conditioning? Do you remember all the traveling back and forth from South Carolina back North – was it like 17 times in 2 years? Do you remember when you were on the plane waiting for me and I was super late getting to the airport and the plane pulled away from the gate and was pulling away, but they still let me board with special stairs on the tarmac?
Do you remember that Thanksgiving where we skated across the parking lot of the hotel on the ice that shut down I81? Do you remember the over an inch of ice on the car in the morning?
Can you believe this will be our 29th Thanksgiving together? Do you remember how we would spend half the day at my Moms house and half the day at your parent’s house? Do you remember how you surprised me for my 25th birthday with a trip to see the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving? Do you remember how that was our first Thanksgiving together alone and also how it was our first Thanksgiving away from our families? Do you remember when my Mom used to burn the marshmallows on the sweet potatoes every year? Do you remember how your Dad would always ask if we can save the noodles hon? Oh! And how can you forget that Thanksgiving at my brother’s place? That truck that almost ran us off the road on the way there. I mean can you say Christmas Vacation as the tree is falling down in the living room while we are watching it happen on the TV screen?
We have built a family and boy do We have memories. Our Faith has given us strength. We have danced the dance, and we have fought the fight. We have chased the chicken while the tiger chased us. Stick and move, Stick and Move. We are only on the second series and there are 4 to go with 3 spin offs. Each one has ridiculous dramatic music, but we always know the ending.
This Thanksgiving it will just be our immediate family and my sons girlfriend. Then we will have a quick visit to some friends for dessert. It sounds low key, but one never knows the adventure we will encounter.
The memories are GRAND, and I am so happy to SHARE this 29th Thanksgiving TOGETHER. May we make a memory – EVERYTHING. FAMILY.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
For the Win!
