Doe gave fawn life.
Fawn did not move.
In the bed, motionless, curled up,
Hiding among the trees.
The gentle bundle jumped.
Danger flushed the youngling out.
Dashing to another hiding place.
Doe Mother stays away.
Most of the day.
To keep her brood safe.
Hidden from any threat.
Cautious leader is nearby.
Returning to feed and nurse and
Groom and love
Guiding velvet ears to a new safe space.
The curious seeker grows.
Spotted coat – protective cloak.
In the Doe’s shadow.
She drives her offspring away.
The cycle starts again.
