FUN FRIDAYS! – How I know 2025 is going to be a great year!

My wife turned 50 this past December 2024. I asked my wife what she wanted for her birthday and she told me she didn’t want a party, but she wanted a trip. She has been wanting to go to Florida to the beach for Christmas for many years. So, I found a place and we made our plans. In the meantime, a woman from our Sunday School class suggested I have a winter solstice bon fire to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The party was a blast and the day after Christmas we headed out on our trip. We had a really nice time relaxing, but that’s not why I know 2025 is going to be a great year!

You see, for our entire marriage, I receive the chiclets of soap from my wife’s soap bar. We both have our separate areas in the shower. Early on in our marriage, I conducted an experiment with soap. The experiment was to determine which soap lasted the longest and in addition, which soap I could take the chiclets and remold into the new soap as to not waste soap by throwing out the chiclets! It turns out, I have this uncanny ability to meld soap chiclets into each other. (with the right soap) So, for much of our marriage, my soap bar has chiclets attached to it and for the past 8 years my soap bar is pretty much just a bunch of chiclets.

There is a drawback to this situation. Rarely do I receive a new soap bar. If I am lucky, I might see two brand new bars a year. I think how this works is, my wife sees when my soap “pile” is getting low and then she goes and gets a new bar and then I receive her chiclets!

On our trip to Florida, we shared a bar of soap. It was a brand newbie. As we were packing up, my wife instructed me to grab the soap out of the shower. When I returned with the soap, my wife looked at me and said, “You can just throw that out.” WAIT, WHAT? As you might guess, I was seriously disturbed! I took the fun approach with this of course – with my response – “WAIT, WHAT? I get all the chiclets for years, and if I am lucky see 1-2 brand new bars of soap a year…And you want me to throw that out?” SERIOUSLY? ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME? I hope you can imagine my level of disgust in a fun-loving way.
