This week I referenced the number 32 in my Post, Tell It Tuesday – The Circular. I knew that was going to be the number I was going to write about this week for two reasons. First, it had come up for me a couple weeks ago and I started researching it. Second, then this week, a man tells a story that happened 32 years ago, and well… I just had to go there.
I would make a good guess, that most Christians know that David is the lineage to Jesus. That is usually where we start as prophecy points to this through the prophet Nathan. We know this as the story of David and Goliath – GIANT.
2 Samuel 7:16 NIV
16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’”
But there is a ROOT. The Root is Jesse. Jesse is the Father of David and just for FUN – David is the 7th son of Jesse. Seven being perfect, complete, and divine. As we know, David, is chosen and exalted and the Old Testament Story is a foreshadow of the life of Jesus -Ultimate King and exalted for ALL.
1 Chronicles 2: 13-17
13 Jesse was the father of
Eliab his firstborn; the second son was Abinadab, the third Shimea, 14 the fourth Nethanel, the fifth Raddai, 15 the sixth Ozem and the seventh David. 16 Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah’s three sons were Abishai, Joab and Asahel. 17 Abigail was the mother of Amasa, whose father was Jether the Ishmaelite.
God’s plan is repeated throughout the Old Testament, and it becomes more and more clear as the story unfolds. The Fruit of the Spirt and Gods Gifts are long foretold, before Paul provides us this insight directly in Galatians 5 and 1 Corinthians.
So, what about the number 32? Jesse is the 32nd patriarch in the physical lineage of Jesus. His name appears in a prophecy foretelling that the Messiah would come from his line to ultimately rule over the entire earth.
Isaiah 11:1-2:10 NIV
The Branch From Jesse
11 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
10 In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious.
HOWEVER – There is a SIDEWAYS ROOT. Nathan ultimately “calls out David” on his sexual sin and rape of Bathsheba and murder of Uriah. Yes, I did just say rape and NO! I am not interested in arguing that fact and mollifying you, as this is an age-old obvious example of man using power over women, that holds a lot of weight.
Repentance is the message, as David admits his guilt. The SIDEWAYS ROOT is, God using folly for the resurrection of LIFE.
In His Perfection, Jesus is born to Save US from our sins.
