How much Wait is on your Heart?

Being like Jesus is hard. I contend that it is impossible in this world. If it were possible, that would mean we are to be perfect. In more simpler terms, we are called to be more like Jesus. That is attainable.

This week, my focus has been the Heart. I ran into a scary thought that coincides with the topic.

What if we have defining moments that choose our path? What if we make the choice to go in the wrong direction? What if our choice(s) hardens our Heart?

The way it was explained to me, was through the scripture in Exodus and the Plagues. Pharo was given 10 opportunities to change his Heart. He saw God. He saw the miracles and or maybe even to Pharo, the insanity of the Plagues was so great, it had to be God. The real miracles were how God protected the Israelites through it all. It took death for Pharo to release the Isrealites. And then? He still took it back. His heart was hardened. God provided 10 monumental opportunities for Pharo to change his Heart. Phora doubled down each time, even after the death of his own son.

Even though the thought scares me, that I could make a wrong choice that sends me down the wrong path, I do think this is a healthy fear. I also think this offers us hope! God allows us to screw up (Not license to screw up – just His Grace!). God offers us the opportunity to change our Hearts. Repeatedly.

70 x 7 = Endless forgiveness.

Yet, we still need to make the right choice. We need stay in expectation; we need to stay in service. We need to Wait on our choices! We need to reconsider the flesh and look to Him!

God has a plan for us. When we make selfish choices, that is clearly not God’s plan. There was this guy I knew in the 12 Step rooms who used to say this:

“We may not know what God’s Will is. However, we certainly know what God’s Will isn’t!”

This is where the Heart steps in. This is where we need the Wait of our Heart to steer us in the right direction. This is where we need to make next right choices. This is where we need to look to Jesus.

Psalm 37:23-24 NIV

23 The Lord makes firm the steps
    of the one who delights in him;
24 though he may stumble, he will not fall,
    for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
