Did you forget something? You may have noticed that I did not have any new posts last week. Well, I didn’t forget to post, I was just BLANK. I had nothing to post. Apparently, I needed some space for other events.
I did, however, forget something. Something very important. About two weeks ago or so, I started leaving God out. It was masked with emotions of anger. My internal anger over a life situation returned and I allowed it to subconsciously start leaving God out of my day. That period lasted probably about a good week and a half before I realized it. That’s a long stint. As you may have guessed, leaving God out doesn’t lead to much fun. By the Grace of God, my stint of forgetting God was not as long as the trial of the Israelites.

Our Scriptural anchor for God Forgotten is the books of 1 Kings and 2 Kings. After David died, by instruction, his son Solomon was his successor. Solomon was the last portion of the “Triple Forty” Saul, David and Solomon all shared 40 prosperous years each (total 120) of leading Isreal as their King. However, Solomon, regardless of his divine wisdom and humble devotion, faltered near the end of his reign. Solomon began to shift from spiritual faithfulness to syncretism. He is notably known for having 700 wives and 300 concubines. In his transition from leader to heavy handed monarch, he also imposed heavy taxation and forced labor. This was one of the most tragic turns in the bible. However, God did not tear away the kingdom from Solomon out of respect for David and God’s promise. After Solomon’s death, his son Rehoboam was made King by Isreal. It is important to introduce to you Jeraboam as well. Jeraboamwho had been one of King Solomon’s high-ranking officials, who lead the revolt against Rehoboam to reduce taxes.

15 So the king did not listen to the people, for this turn of events was from the Lord, to fulfill the word the Lord had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite.

7 All this took place because the Israelites had sinned against the Lord their God, who had brought them up out of Egypt from under the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They worshiped other gods 8 and followed the practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before them, as well as the practices that the kings of Israel had introduced.
These events of God Forgotten are THE TURNING POINT that leads us into our next summary point – Rulers Rotten.
