This point is redundant. And for those of you still learning how to read the Bible: If there is one thing that is repeatedly repeated, it’s the fact that THE MESSAGE IS REPEATED, over and over and over again throughout the Bible. The story in the bible repeats itself. The first 14 points of the story we have been reviewing demonstrates repeated human failures and our need for reliance on God.
Theologically, the term to describe this phenomena is:
Progressive Spiral – The narrative repeats itself. Human failures with the same divine promises – only as each story unfolds, it is not a flat repetitive circle. Instead, it is a spiral upward, progressively moving closer towards the coming of Christ.
Another term we can plug in to this progression is:
Recapitulation – We may know this term secularly as, review, or to “sum up” – RESTATE. Theologically, this term means, “to bring under a new head.” Recapitulation describes how God starts a new story line through a new figure.
Examples: Adam & Eve, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Israel, various prophets such as Joshua and now we are at the story line of the Kings.
As we all know, this story will reach finality – but yet has not come to full completion with the story of JESUS.
In addition to the story repeating itself, WE ARE ISRAEL – Have you noticed? The story is still repeating itself!
The story unfolds the same throughout history to the present day. It repeats itself similarly every time, yet in different ways. Not only because we need repetition to get the message, but we also need it repeated in different ways, so that we may retain the message. We need constant reminders that we will fail without Him! Our Story which is found in The Bible, and we are living out today, is tailored just for you! If you don’t get the message in one story, there is certainly another that will speak to you.
This leads us to Hope!
Progressive Revelation – This theological term depicts how God does not deliver all of His message at once. Because human nature is SLOW to understand, God repeats core messages across centuries as more clarity, depth, and detail is added with each REPETITION.
Isaiah 28:10 KJV
For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
