We really jumped the story line this time. Last week, we just told the story of the birth of Jesus. Now we are supposed to get into the story of the crucifixion of Jesus. That’s a big jump. Don’t worry, I am already planning an expanded version of this summary! It’s a story. More to follow on that story soon! However, I do feel that I need to give you a bit of back story before we get to the crucified summary portion of the bible story.
The bible is surprisingly quiet on the first 30 years of the life of Jesus. We don’t get much on the story of Jesus until He is around the age of 30. But there are many places in the bible that confirm His existence well before His private life became public.
- John 17:5, References Jesus as God before he was born.
And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
- Luke 2:21
On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.
- In Matthew 2:13-23
King Herod attempts to kill the baby Jesus. Joseph is warned that he must escape and they flee to Egypt. After Herod dies the family settles in the town of Nazareth.
- Luke 2:41-51
We get the only detailed story between the age of 12 and the age of 30. When Jesus was just 12 years old the family went to the Temple to celebrate Passover. After his family left they discovered Jesus was missing. He was found 3 days later in the Temple discussing Scripture with Israel’s teachers.
- Mark 6:3, Did you know Jesus was a carpenter?
Isn’t this the carpenter? …
- Scripture tells us in 3 places that Jesus was perfect. This means even his adolescence was lived in full obedience to God.
- Hebrews 4:15
- 1 Peter 2:22
- 2 Corinthians 5:21
- Luke 3:21-23, Jesus enters the years of his final 3 years of life which is the beginning of His Ministry through Baptism.
When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened.
8. John 20:30-31, Explains
Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe[a] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Now that’s A LOT! However, I really felt it was important to Give You the Story in the space from the jump! So, we didn’t even get to our next summary point. The NEXT STEP to our Summary is Crucified. We will take that next step – next week!
