Two Lines of Thinking: Got It! – Short Stories

Last night we were at a High School football game. Our team won 63-0 and are undefeated 6-0. I was dealing with a long distance family health care issue and I stepped away from the bleachers to make a phone call. As I was just getting some distance from the bleachers, I heard very rude heckling calls to the head coach from the bleachers. I was kind of in a mood apparently and you know what? We’re Not Gonna Take It, Any More! No We Ain’t Gonna Take it! So I walked down the bleachers where this guy was sitting right on the end. I stopped close enough so he would know I was there, but just behind him to make him turn around. I said, “You all right?” He said “Yeah.” I replied: “You sure?” He said “Yes”. I said, “Well it doesn’t sound that way, I am just making sure.” He then brought his buddy into the situation as he was telling me why he was heckling the coach.

His line of thinking was that our team was being unsportsman like because we still had our starting quarterback in the game and they were running up the score. His additional point was, he didn’t want to see the kid get hurt. Valid points but his method of delivery sucked. I just glared at him. He finally told his buddy this guy isn’t anybody and they turned around and I walked off. As I got back to almost the original point I was when walking away from the bleachers the first time, the heckling started in again.

My line of thinking as I walked off was: Our team will be playing the undefeated team that we always loose to every year, in a few weeks. Trash time or not, this is play time for our quarterback to continue to get experience to build on his skills and grow. It wasn’t like the other team was even getting close to our quarterback anyway. Yes, there is risk, but building on the strong foundation is exactly what God wants us to do. Build your house on sand? Or build your house on a Rock!

When I returned from my phone call, The Police were standing in the corner of the bleachers just below the trouble maker.

I GOT IT!
