What is an Egalitarian? – Equal Link

What is an Egalitarian?

An Egalitarian is a person who believes and practices equality for ALL people regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, economic class or age.

An Egalitarian Christian believes and practices equality with regard to their family unit and their Spiritual practices. Of course, their belief is also reflected in their everyday life activities. Through education and advocacy, the goal is to eliminate sexism, racism, misogyny, gender-based violence, and human trafficking; to raise the status of women; and to promote human flourishing. This belief is not only supported through scripture, it is also demonstrated by Jesus and his actions towards ALL.

An Egalitarian understands and believes that slavery and power over each other is not the Will of God. An Egalitarian believes and practices that regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, class or age that ALL are inherently equal by God’s Grace.

The Eagle in the bible represents Freedom from slavery. Exodus 19:4: You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.

An Egalitarian clearly seas, that Jesus treats women equally as he does men and demonstrates this repeatedly throughout His recorded Ministry.

Jesus spoke openly in public to the woman at the well and healed her on the Sabbath in Luke 13:10-17.

An Egalitarian knows what Jesus’ Love truly means. Mathew 22:39  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Our Love for each other is to be reflected just as Jesus demonstrated. God’s Love is equal for ALL.

An Egalitarian believes and practices that the Gospel is for ALL.

Paul corrects the Galatians in Galatians 3:28   “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Humble Service in the Body of Christ

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Why would God Give YOU more than he would someone else?

I am not in charge; I am merely His instrument. I am to use any authority in gift given to me by God to lift up and edify others. I am to repeatedly demonstrate the equity of God’s Love to others in my faith, in my family, in my church and in my everyday activities. I am to spread the word and serve others just as Paul did – regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, class or age. I am to challenge myself to be more like Jesus!

I am Egalitarian.
