This rock collection has been in my family for a long time. My cousin gave it to my father approximately 44 years ago. Rock business runs in my family. My uncle and grandfather both worked in the cement mills to support their families. My brother worked in a cement mill during his early college days. My Father In-law is a retired geology professor. I have worked in Rock quarries off and on for over 11 years of my career. My Cousin Tommy was a Rocker in a Rock band and he even tried out once for Ozzy Osborne.
Rocks are an important part of our cultures. Rocks are the basis for many things that we use on a daily basis, including the origin of our monetary systems. More importantly, Rocks are also very significant from a biblical perspective. Rocks hold symbolic and literal meanings in the bible.
This past week in our Sunday school class I had an interesting insight. We were talking about Paul and how he was stoned and left to die in Lystra. Stoning was the ultimate method of punishment in the Jewish tradition.
Isn’t interesting that stoning was the ultimate punishment for Jews and yet we often refer to Jesus as our Rock? Where does that come from anyway?
Dueteronomy 32:4
4 He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
and all his ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong,
