Practice – Short Stories
In more recent weeks, I have been overwhelmed with life. Thoughts of practicing my bass guitar were thrown to the side. I have not been firing on all cylinders. Life has been in the way. Give Your Story posts have been flying out the door. However, if I am honest, my focus on Spreading the Word in accordance with my calling has taken a bit of a back seat. My focus shifted to what felt like survival mode.
Here is how I have been practicing:
Do it Anyway
When I am overwhelmed and do not have enough time, it never fails that I receive a call from a friend in recovery from my 12 step program. What do I do? I answer the phone. Often, the person on the other end will ask if I have time to talk. To which I reply, “I do not, that is why I answered.” And then we proceed to laugh and I take the time to talk with them.
You see, this is HOW IT WORKS: When I give of myself, it takes me out of self. When I am out of self, I am helping others. When I am helping others, I am doing God’s work.
Self Care
I took my bass guitar out of its carry case and strategically placed the two stands I have for it in open areas in the house where I can see the bass – calling for me to pick it up and spend some time practicing daily. It is working!
I choose to spend less time focusing on the things that overwhelm me.
I choose to refocus my time on things that give me satisfaction. Amazingly, this self care gives me the path to focus on what really matters! That is: Spreading the Word of Jesus and my work at Give Your Story.
Consider Thoughts for the Wise
All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that has been given us. Even the very wise can not see all the ends. So do all who see such times, but that is not for them to decide.
I made a promise. I am going with you. I will never leave you. We’re coming too. Share the load!
There is some good in this world.
