Noah Floats

The story of Noah is found in Genesis Chapters 6 – 9.

Genesis 6:5-8

5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

The world became wicked and the earth was filled with violence. By God’s judgement, the Lord said He would wipe out the human race. But God found favor with Noah

God instructed Noah to build a large ark and gave him specific dimensions. Noah was told to bring his wife, his three sons (Shem, Ham, and Japheth), their wives, and pairs of every kind of animal (seven pairs of clean animals, two of unclean animals) onto the ark to preserve life.

Genesis 6:22

22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him.

God Saves the Faithful – Obedience Matters

When the ark was finished, rain fell for forty days and forty nights, and floodwaters covered the earth for 150 days. Every living thing outside the ark perished.

After many months, the waters began to recede. The ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Noah sent out a raven and later a dove to see if the land was dry. When the dove returned with an olive leaf, it showed that the waters had receded to provide dry land.

Noah and his family left the ark and built an altar to worship God. God made a covenant (promise) never to destroy the earth by flood again and set the rainbow as the sign of that covenant.
