Read the Bible Summary – Joseph Dreams

a grayscale of the holy bible

This morning, as I was preparing for the 6th summary point as we go through the Bible in a 26 part summary expansion of my 30 second Bible summary, AI gave me this really kewl cut sheet and I didn’t even ask for it. Then I went ahead and changed up my main image using AI to make it bit more exciting than the cover of the Bible I have been using for this series. Then due to a distraction I will tell you about this Friday, I went ahead and let AI do it all for me (with my edits). Note the error in the AI graphic on the scripture in Joseph’s second dream. Always check your work! EVEN AI! This weeks summary point is our last reference in Genesis – Joseph Dreams.

Joseph Dreams

The story of Joseph is often considered by Christians to be the clearest foreshadowing of the coming of Christ that is found in the Old Testament of the Bible. Joseph’s brothers hated him because Jacob(Isreal) his father, loved Joseph more than his other sons. When Joseph told his brothers about his first dream, they hated him even more.

Joseph’s Dreams and The Foreshadowing of Jesus

1. Joseph Receives Divine Revelation Through Dreams

Joseph is given dreams revealing God’s future plan.

Genesis 37:7

“Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and lo, my sheaf arose and stood upright; and behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.”

Genesis 37:9

“Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.”

These dreams reveal Joseph will one day rule over his family.

Similarly, Jesus came with divine authority and revelation.

John 5:19

“The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do.”

2. Joseph Is Rejected by His Brothers

Joseph’s brothers hate him and reject him.

Genesis 37:4

“They hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.”

They eventually sell him.

Genesis 37:28

“They sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver.”

Jesus was also rejected by His own people.

John 1:11

“He came unto his own, and his own received him not.”

Jesus was betrayed for silver as well.

Matthew 26:15

“They covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.”

3. Joseph Suffers Before Being Exalted

Joseph is:

  • Thrown into a pit
  • Sold into slavery
  • Falsely accused
  • Imprisoned

Yet God is with him.

Genesis 39:21

“But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy.”

Eventually Joseph is elevated to power.

Genesis 41:41

“See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.”

Jesus also suffers before glory.

Philippians 2:8-9

“He humbled himself… unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him.”

4. Joseph Saves the Nations from Famine

Through interpreting Pharaoh’s dream, Joseph prepares Egypt for famine.

Genesis 41:29-30

“Seven years of great plenty… shall be followed by seven years of famine.”

Because of Joseph, many people are saved from death.

Genesis 50:20

“You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, to save many people alive.”

Jesus likewise saves humanity from spiritual death.

John 3:17

“God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

5. Joseph Forgives Those Who Harmed Him

When Joseph finally meets his brothers again, he forgives them.

Genesis 45:5

“Be not grieved… that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.”

Jesus demonstrates this same heart of forgiveness.

Luke 23:34

“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”

Key Pattern Seen in Both Stories

Joseph’s life reveals a repeating biblical pattern:

Revelation → Rejection → Suffering → Exaltation → Salvation

This Biblical pattern reaches its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus.
