In the sales world, my colleagues and I have a saying we often use:
“Don’t Leave ALL Your Candy in the Lobby!”
It means don’t give away everything you have immediately.
We don’t give our pricing out before the customer understands the value.
We don’t give all our attributes until we learn the customer’s needs.
We train the buyer to negotiate downward.
We ask for commitment before solving the entire problem.
The primary image for this post is a picture of our new puppy!

In relationships, we can use this same concept:
A puppy is a beautiful example of the concept “Don’t Leave ALL your Candy in the Lobby!” We don’t rush to give everything, until we are sure the relationship is secure.
Here is it how this works:
Murtaugh has Puppy Power – He is cute!
Murtaugh can’t be trusted to not poop and pee in the house!
Murtaugh has Puppy Power – He is cute!
Murtaugh still chews on things he shouldn’t. (Right now he is pulling on my socks!)
Murtuagh has Puppy Power – He is cute!
Murtaugh has supervised freedom.
Murtaugh has Puppy Power! – He is cute!
Murtaugh is earning our mutual TRUST.
Trust grows through relationship and consistency over time.
Whether it is:
- Sales
- Relationships
- Leadership
- Parenting
- Even training a puppy
Greater access is allowed, as trust and understanding grow.
I hope you have a FUN FRIDAY! and a great weekend!
